Dr. Tonja Cantu comes to Torah Academy with a wealth of relevant education and experience. She holds a bachelor’s in elementary education, a master’s in education, and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction. Dr. Cantu has over fourteen years of teaching and academic administrative experience in Minnesota.
Prior to her appointment at TA, Dr. Cantu worked as adjunct professor at Southwest Minnesota State University where she developed online and classroom curricula for the Master’s in Education department of the university. She recently worked as a substitute teacher for middle school and high students and as a dissertation advisor to doctoral of education candidates. Dr. Cantu is licensed and certified in elementary education for math, English and writing in three states, including Florida.
“My goal is to elevate teaching and learning at Torah Academy,” said Dr.Cantu. “By examining Florida State curriculum standards and the specific needs of the students and teachers at Torah Academy, I will be able to further develop curricular standards and provide the professional development training necessary to promote life-long learners,” Dr. Cantu added.
In her spare time, Dr. Cantu enjoys spending time with her five children and six grandchildren. She also enjoys the outdoors, reading, quilting and remodeling homes with her husband.
